I Want to Rock!!

Posted on August 21st, 2022

I took this title from the all-time classic band Twisted Sister. Their music video of the song I want Rock, starts out with this youngster playing music in his room and who I assume is his stepfather who came in the room asking: “What do you want to do with your life?” and the answer comes: “I want to Rock!” Classic!!

This is a question that I feel in many ways are mis understood by youngsters and the answer mis understood by parents. As a parent you always have high expectations from your child. From the first breath you, you want that little baby to be the ruler of the world someday. I remember with each of my four children’s births, in my heart I proclaimed that they are going to be the best and the greatest. At what I did not know, and to a great extend I still do not know. The Bible says in Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” It does not say train your child up in the way you want him to go. I feel in many ways we as parent want to extend our lives in our children. I you had an aspiration to play for the NFL but did not make it you push you child in that direction without guiding them to discover what really is their passion and purpose in life.

So, when we ask our children what they want to do with their lives they answer in a way that they think you want them to answer instead of what is really living in their hearts. I have a child who wants to make money and lots of it. Right now, she has more money in her savings account than me. We have never set expectations to our kids as to what we want them to do with their lives if they are successful in whatever it is they set their hearts and minds to. We make suggestions only to show them the menu of what is available for their futures, but the decision is their own.

I never knew what exactly I wanted to do with my life, I always know I wanted to be in the medical field but what specifically I had no idea. Since my grades were not good enough for medical school; my dad suggested that go into mining engineering since he has such a good standing with the mines in South Africa, it would be an easy thing for me to get a scholarship. So, I enrolled in mining engineering and hated every second the entire semester I was enrolled. I quit and went back to high school to better my grades to better my chances for medical school. My dad did not speak to me for 6 months, he was so angry at me. I knew this was not the way I should go.

Proverbs 19:21 “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevail” I had this plan in my heart to become a doctor. But after I finished high school again, I decided to go the army first for 2 years of service. During this time, I got to meet several doctors and pharmacists. After many discussions I realized that I do not really want to be a doctor and so after the army I enrolled in pharmacy school and the rest is history. I really like being a pharmacist. I like being able to make an impact in people’s lives and helping them to live better and healthier lives. Many times over, I have told people that I were to get my life over again I will likely become a pharmacist again. I still stand by this statement.

Over the years, the J.O.B. as a pharmacist have changed. It has become more of a job trying to stay out trouble with regulators and policing narcotics and less about caring for people and making their lives better which was the reason I went to pharmacy school in the first place. I increasingly became frustrated with the J.O.B. of a pharmacist. With this frustration you start asking yourself the question as to what do you want to do with the rest of your life?

I am a huge fan of Dean Graziosi. I am not sure how I discovered him but somehow, I started to listen to his podcast years ago and sometimes I re-listen to some of the older episodes. He still inspires me to be a better person every day. The other day while re-listening to an older episode, he said something that I have heard him say many times before but for the first time it hit me this way. It was that eureka moment all over again. I cannot remember the episode or the context that he said this sentence, but it does not matter. He said what he wants is to impact others and to live life on his terms. BOOM!! Immediately I thought, “but that is what I want with every fiber of my being.” That sentence stayed with me for the rest of the day, so I had to get my journal and unpack this for myself.

“I want to impact people”

Who do I want to impact? I want to impact my family, my children so they can be equipped to make good decisions going forward. I also have a passion for men to be all they can be without it being a chore. I see s many youngsters grow up without a father figure at home and I feel if men live their full potentials, they will be present fathers to their children and desired husbands to their wives. Single moms, my hat is off to you, so many of you do an outstanding job without husbands. Although, in many cases, if the man you had was living his full potential you would not need to be a single mom.

Men do not understand women, but I had the best training available. I grew up as the only boy child with three sisters and my mom and dad. Now I have three daughters and a son. Many times, I find myself translating my girls to my boy and the other way round, because let us face it, girls do not understand boys either.

If men have the advantage of understanding themselves and knowing what changes happen in their bodies and how they can manipulate these changes to make their hormones work the way it should they will be happier, healthier and have the ability to be wealthier. We boys do not talk about our difficulties. We do not discuss medical issues with our friends, so we are not going to discuss it with you. We do not pay attention to seemingly little changes in our bodies until it affects our performance. Men are performance driven and we only pay attention when something affects our performance at work, play or in bed. We do not discuss these things because deep down inside we feel it is a sign of weakness to discuss our problems. But what if I can give you something that will improve your performance? Would you disclose what is bothering you now and allow me to help you?

The reason I want to help is because I was in a deep dark hole myself. The fact that my wife stayed with me is pure grace from God. I was in my late thirty’s early forty’s working hard on a career and climbing the ladder. Everyday I got home I was completely burnt out with nothing left over. I went for a full physical with my doctor hoping that he would find something that I can have a reason for my fatigue, but nothing he just suggested I eat right and do some exercise. I was hopeless but decided that I had to do something. So educated myself relentlessly in men’s health aspects and natural ways to feel better and PERFORM better in all areas. My background as a pharmacist helped a lot in me becoming a functional medicines provider and like all good scientists, I experimented on myself as to what works and what does not.

It was an eight-year journey back to health for myself, but it does not have to be for you if you allow me to help you. I have found some short cuts with which you can shorten this journey. I meet men every day in the situation that I was in and men that is even worse off and my heart breaks for them because they are not able to enjoy life the way I do and the way they desire to. It is never fun to have to sit out when others are playing but you know you do not have the stamina, or you have some issue holding you back. We are the hunters; we were not made to spectate while other enjoy life. If we men can feel better and be healthier, we will be able to fulfill our part in society and be better fathers and husbands and make this world a better place.

Live life on my terms

To me that means freedom. Think about it what would you do if time and money were not a problem? How many more people would you have helped? How much more would you have shown up for your wife and kids. How much more would you have invested in your children to made sure that the values and principles you hold dear is taught and instilled in their being? Do not let me start on this subject because I might not stop, and you might not read to the end of this post.

But this all brings me back to the question: “What do you want to do with your life?” We must teach our children to design the life they want and not settle for the deck of cards they were dealt. For that same reason it is never too late to make changes in your life and health today and start living.
